Details of new album from Joan Baez

Some details have come through on Joan Baez’s upcoming new album.  To be released on March 2nd 2018 via Proper Records Whistle Down the Wind will feature a selection of songs by Baez’s favourite songwriters. Whistle Down the Wind  was produced by Joe Henry, and was recorded over ten days in Los Angeles.  It’s been a long time coming – her  last studio album was 2008’s Day After Tomorrow, which was produced by Steve Earle.

As can be seen from the full track-listing the album will feature something of a who’s who of songwriters, promising a varied look at the world, although the astute observer may detect something of a political theme hidden away.   Joan Baez getting political ?  Well – that just about explains the last fifty or so years of her musical career.

Whistle Down The Wind by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan
Be of Good Heart by Josh Ritter
Another World by Anohni
Civil War by Joe Henry
The Things That We Are Made Of by Mary Chapin Carpenter
The President Sang Amazing Grace by Zoe Mulford.
Last Leaf by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan.
Silver Blade by Josh Ritter
The Great Correction by Eliza Gilkyson
I Wish The Wars Were All Over by Tim Eriksen.

Whilst we wait, there’s this to enjoy from the album of the same name – Diamonds and Rust.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
