Ryan Adams “Won’t Cover Album Again”

ryan-adamsSo bad luck on that version of the Babylon Zoo debut.  Pitchfork reports: “In September 2015, Ryan Adams released 1989, an album in which he covered every song from Taylor Swift’s Grammy-winning 2014 blockbuster. Taylor herself was thrilled by the idea, and surrounding the album’s release, the two artists discussed their mutual admiration in joint interviews. Now it seems as though Ryan does not look fondly upon the release. Today on Twitter, he responded to a fan suggesting a new album he could cover (it was Oasis’ Be Here Now): “Thanks but not gonna cover an album again.” He continued, suggesting that 1989’s polarized reception had given him a new outlook on releasing these types of projects. “1000 jabs later, what we made for fun has been made to be something else,” he wrote. “Learning to share less.”

Adams also revealed the fate of an older, similar project. In response to a fan asking about his fabled remake of the Strokes’ Is This It, Adams wrote, “It will never be released. It wasn’t ever meant to be.” He went on to say he had recorded it “for a laugh” and that it had been “thrown out by accident.” Read the full exchange [here]. Earlier this year, Adams released a deluxe reissue of his 2000 album Heartbreaker.”
