With his heart in the Americana sound, coming out of his long-time East Nashville residence, but with roots that are firmly in the soil of California, it should probably come as no surprise that Don Gallardo produces music that merges the twang of country with 1970s Laurel Canyon influences. Gallardo’s latest addition to an already … Continue reading “Don Gallardo feat. Lilly Winwood “In the Name of Good Intentions” (JTM Music, 2019)”
Don Gallardo, whose last album we described last year as “richly layered music on the country-rock side of Americana” has announced a string of summer UK tour dates including Suffolk’s Maverick Festival, shows including London, Bristol and Birmingham, and culminating in a performance at Tingestock Festival (full tour dates below).
This fine album of richly layered music on the country-rock side of Americana makes for enjoyable listening. The song-writing glistens, the musicianship is stellar, and Gallardo is a compelling singer. The songs deal with drinking, life’s travails, and the need to learn – and indeed, profit – from pain and mistakes. “The bottle puts it off until tomorrow/Then … Continue reading “Don Gallardo “Still Here” (Southern Carousel Records / Clubhouse Records 2018)”

We leave you this weekend dear reader with news of one of our favourite long-running americana festivals (one of the originals as it were) Maverick which takes place Friday 5th-Sunday 7th July at Easton Farm Park, Woodbridge and showcases music from both sides of the Atlantic.
You can find gold in the most unlikely of places if you look hard enough. Now, Oberhausen, a quiet industrial backwater in the Ruhr valley a few miles from the metropolitan splendour of Dusseldorf, wouldn’t be the first place you would look for an amazing two day americana and roots festival. Well, it turns out … Continue reading “Interview: Dietmar Leibecke”
Maverick Festival officially unwrapped the line up for their 11th year at a launch party held at the Gibson Guitar Studios in London last Thursday. Ten years and ‘still kickin’’ according to this year’s t-shirt, Maverick is THE festival on the Americana calendar. it’s the one everyone wants to play and the yard stick by which other festivals have measured themselves (and been inspired by). Now firmly branded as ‘Americana & Roots’ it started using the much missed tag ‘alt … Continue reading “Maverick Festival, Easton Farm Park, Suffolk, 30th June-2nd July 2017”
