Abbie Gardner “Three Quarter Time” – waltzing through life

And so they say to us sometimes “Americana UK, why is there so little Dobro featured front and centre on the tracks you feature?” and usually we have little to say by way of a riposte to this probing question.  But not today.  Today we say “here you are, fill your dobro boots.”  Or something like that….

Abbie Gardner you may already know from Red Molly, but here on a song from her new solo album ‘DobroSinger‘ (out May 13th) she can be heard playing from a tiny closet studio…yes, it’s a pandemic lockdown album.  The result of the home recording though is that the music is up close and intimate, it’s like having a dobro player in your living room.  Or on the tube.  Wherever you happen to be listening, but that’s not important.  What’s important is that this is a sweet and lovely love song, and that maybe what you need the day after Valentine’s Day for one reason or indeed for another (we’re thinking celebration or consolation, your pick).

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
