Alexa Rose “Like A Child” – Listen

Occasionally it gets mentioned that there’s not as much Twang as there could be, and we guess that there’s some truth in that.  Well, True Believers, today you get your twang, courtesy of Alexa Rose, who really must hate that Amazon product: “Alexa, play some music with twang.”  Ho ho, very droll, yeah, never heard that before.

Alexa Rose has just produced her debut album ‘Like a Child‘ on the Big Legal Mess label, the title track of which we’re featuring today.  Her album represents an attempt to bring back Americana to a certain purity -in this definition that’s a merger of old country music, traditional folk songs, with a double dash of rock and roll and mountain soul.  Not a bad definition.  Alexa Rosa has said of her approach to music “there’s a lot of people I’m influenced by that show up in the songs in different ways, whether it’s John Prine or Townes Van Zandt, or Alynda Segarra from Hurray for the Riff Raff.”   Some of that can certainly be heard in ‘Like a Child.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
