AUK’s Chain Gang: Chuck Prophet “Truth Will Out (Ballad of Melissa and Remy)”

Chains can be thick enough to hold an anchor or as tenuous as the stalks of a daisy.  This choice is going to the tenuous end of the spectrum.  Following on from last week’s excellent choice the risk was that if I played the Jay from Jayhawks I’d hit right on Jay Ferrar, and then as sure as day follows night that’d have meant picking ‘Feed Kill Chain‘.   And after that we’d surely be stepping back to Mornington Crescent Wilco on the shortest piece of chain ever. So instead let’s take ‘Sound of Lies‘ as a jumping off point, and you know that you can only lie for so long before the structure collapses and the truth crawls out – as Chuck Prophet explains on this typically complex song from ‘Night Tales‘ .

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
