AUK’s Top 10 Albums of the 21st Century: Number 10 – Nick Lowe “The Convincer” (2001)

Features Editor Clint West writes: So the countdown begins as we reveal our ‘Top 10 Americana Albums of the 21st Century’. Starting today with our Number 10. Over the next two weeks we will each day reveal the next album culminating in the unveiling of the overall winner. Each album will be accompanied by a short appreciation by one of our writers. Dave Jarman sets the ball rolling with his appreciation of Nick Lowe’s superb 2001 album.

In my humble opinion Nick Lowe is the greatest living songwriter, who will always have a place in any Top 10. With such an illustrious back catalogue it’s hard to choose a single album to reflect his talents. He still continues to write and record at the top of his game, with top tracks on recent EPs including ‘Blue on Blue’. But as an album reflecting his combination of songwriting of the highest calbre and an ability to pick covers to reinvent with deeper meaning, ‘The Convincer’ stands with the best by anyone, anywhere, anytime.
