Banditos “On My Way” – taking my time

Banditos are a six-piece of twenty-somethings who hail out of Alabama, but have since relocated to Nashville.  They have an eclectic sound which the other music magazine, Rolling Stone, has described as “Equal parts alt-country twang and garage rock bang…recalling everything from ZZ Top’s greasy boogie to the Alabama Shakes’ coed soul”  And who are we to disagree?  Banditos’ last album was produced by Israel Nash – and that’s a mark of distinction – and they have a new album coming out on their new label Egghunt Records in May.

On My Way‘ is a joyful life-affirming ass-kicker of a number, or, as Banditos say: “‘On My Way’ is about trying to stay positive when it seems as though everything is falling apart. It’s about staying true to yourself even if it seems like the odds are against you. It’s about trying to make a living doing what you love. It’s about blindly clinging to the only things that bring you light in the dark times of life. Follow your dreams, kids.”  Quite.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
