Barzin “Blue Factory Flame” – Listen

Taken from the ‘Studio 13 Session Live at Revolution Recordings‘ EP (and read the review here) this recording of Jason Molina’s ‘Blue Factory Flame‘ is a stunning interpretation – eerily spooky and the interplay with Diana Blanche’s vocals is hypnotically beautiful.  Should you spend the whole day listening to it then we apologise – but we’ve also done you a favour.

And this is a song from a stop-gap EP whilst Toronto based Barzin completes his fifth album which will be out next year.  Of ‘Blue Factory Flame’, Barzin says: “Jason Molina was a gifted songwriter. I have a lot of respect for him. When I think of him, I think of someone who wasn’t afraid to go into those places within himself that a lot of us wouldn’t want to spend too much time in. It takes a lot of courage to go rummaging around in our shadows. And that’s what he did. He was a lyrical maverick who continuously came up with lines that twist and turn and capture the complexity and the difficulty of being human. I think this song captures these qualities.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
