Bob Dylan – New album announced

Of course it’s always a pleasure to hear that there’s a new Bob Dylan studio album on the way – especially when the last one wasn’t so very long ago.  And pleasure becomes thrill when it is announced that for the first time ever the master of American music will be releasing not a double but a triple album.  A triple Bob Dylan studio album.  Wow!  How good has February just become?

You may well want to hold your horses at this point – rather than vaulting onto one and riding bareback through the town, waving your stetson overhead and yelling the joyous news.  This is an unprecedented album – it’s true.  But…well, just hold on a moment.  Curb your excitement.  Regain an earthly state from heavenly rapture.  Triplicate – for such is the album’s title – will feature 30 brand new recordings of classic American songs.  Yes…yet more covers.  Surely they can’t all be “Songs Sinatra Sang” ?  Maybe we’ll get some Bing this time.  31st March is the release date to note in your diary.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
