Christy Moore “Clock Winds Down” – it’s the end of the world as we know it

With the COP26 winding to a close this weekend this new song from Christy Moore couldn’t be more timely.  Picture, if you will, a planet with a changing climate and a leadership example given by the head of the government of the host nation of the Climate Conference who having spent a while wagging a finger and making dire warnings then hops onto a private jet so he can go to a piss-up in London with old colleagues.  A journey – and you’ll laugh at this – that could have been made in a shorter time by train.

Well, it’s that kind of blatant hypocrisy that Christy Moore sings about on ‘Clock Winds Down‘, which was written by Jim Page.  And in the face of the climate crisis there is some hint of despair in here: “It’s hard to know what to say when a child looks up and says: “Hey old man what did you do?  We were depending on you.”  Kid, you might just be out of luck.

Clock Winds Down‘ is taken from Christy Moore’s new album ‘Flying into Mystery‘, which will be released world-wide on the 19th of November.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
