Coma Girls “Skyboxer” – Listen

Where folk-rock comes together with psych-rock that’s where you’ll find Coma Girls.  The band have been around since 2014, forming in Atlanta, but main man Chris Spino went on to sell his belongings and move to L.A. with a backpack full of clothes and a guitar.  With a new line-up Coma Girls also have a new release, an EP of which this is the title track.

Spiro sees the band as moving into new territory; he loves pop but he says that “I think this is an effort to bend that a little bit and push it into territory that gets stranger and feels bigger and explores different sounds, but it also retains what Coma Girls has always been about—pop songs.

We hate to argue (you know that right?  You don’t know that? Well…let’s address that…) but ‘Skyboxer‘ ain’t pop – not with those crunching guitars and those double-take lyrics.  We’ll stick with our opening definition.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
