Posting this on the off chance anyone on here knows of any decent gigs in London between 5 and 10 April. I'm down in London for a few days and was hoping to go to a few shows but, having looked on the usual sites, can't see anything that takes my fancy. There's no doubt somebody brilliant playing is some pub somewhere I haven't managed to find!

I have this site to thank for switching on to The Paper Kites. Despite following Americana pretty closely for over 40 years, I confess I'd never heard of them🤔.

Anyway following some familiarisation, I saw their Bristol gig last night which was superb, high quality stuff. Several highlights including Sam Bentley's acoustic duet 'dearest' with Bess Atwell (support).

Contender for best gig of the last 3 or 4 years.

Lucinda Williams - Bridgewater Hall, Manchester

Lucinda Williams last Friday night at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. Lu was on great form and clearly enjoying herself. She always seems to have a great band backing her and on this tour the band are maintaining that standard. The band is Brady Blade (drums), David Sutton (bass), Doug Pettibone (guitar) and Marc Ford (one time member of The Black Crowes) also on guitar.

The sound at the gig was spot on (how often can you say that?) and it was easy to hear what each of the musicians was playing.

All in all a great gig.

With no UK Americanafest in prospect the coming January the gig scene might have been a bit thin unless you live in Glasgow. But now late January brings Tommy Emmanuel, Lindsay Ell and Kelsey Waldon while the first week in February offers shows from Amethyst Kiah, Lucinda Williams, Rhiannon Giddens and the Transatlantic Sessions.

What's everybody else looking forward to in 2026?

Some Southern Country Rock and Americana with The Snakeoil Rattlers and The Outlaw Orchestra at the Hope and Anchor in Islington, London next week. Wednesday 17th December. It's the Christmas show so going to be fun.

Steeleye Span at The Tung Auditorium

Together for fifty six years now, Steeleye Span changed the face of folk music forever by taking it into the world of gold discs and international tours. Now they return with Conflict, their first full studio album in over five years.

All traditional singers have sung modern and self-composed pieces alongside old songs, Conflict is an album that follows in that very tradition. The album’s title was chosen as much to reflect the times we find ourselves in, but also the stretch and tear of our relationship with this planet that hosts us.

The Dreaming Spires - Great Easton, Leicestershire 8th November

If anyone is within range of Corby this coming Saturday, Oxford's finest, The Dreaming Spires, will be playing one of three album launch shows at Great Easton Village Hall. Support comes from Leicester band, Mountaintop Junkshop, and a great night is in prospect.
