Craig Finn “All Those Perfect Crosses” – Listen

The Hold Steady frontman sounds ever more like Elvis Costello on this song taken from his upcoming Record Store Day exclusive release.  Record Store Day is now planned to be June 20th – well, let’s hope.  Craig Finn’s release is a double album, also called ‘All These Perfect Crosses‘, which features b-sides, alternative versions and demos of tracks recorded throughout his trilogy of solo albums for Partisan Records: ‘Faith In The Future’ (2015), ‘We All Want The Same Things’ (2017) and ‘I Need A New War’ (2019).

Not the most upbeat of songs,  ‘All These Perfect Crosses‘ is a piano ballad offering a diary entry of a relationship on the skids, fading into constant arguments and paranoia.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
