Darling West “Can’t Help It” – Listen

The warm rich tones of Darling West were christened ‘Cosmic Folk’ by no lesser being than Lucinda Williams, with whom the Norwegian duo were sharing a stage.  And that cosmic theme carries forward onto their latest album ‘We’ll Never Know Unless We Try‘ which features a song co-written with Aaron Lee Tasjan.

It’s all because Darling West have toured extensively in the USA, with their last album ‘While I Was Asleep‘ being recorded in Nashville, and parts of ‘We’ll Never Know Unless We Try‘ were also written in the music city.  Main band members Mari and Tor Egil say of their writing and recording process: “After two years of intense touring, and meeting tons of people, we are left with a feeling that there are many good forces at work in the world, even though the state of things can sometimes seem hopeless. Even though it wasn’t a planned theme in the songwriting process, we seem to have been inspired by this, and that hope and encouragement has become a common thread in our lyrical universe this time around.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
