David Crosby – Remembering His Name

There will of course be a proper obituary coming, but it seems like there should be an acknowledgement right now of the passing of David Crosby.  The most cantankerous and argumentative man in rock?  Well, he liked to think so.  The famed drug user who became strongly anti-drugs (some drugs – he had his own marijuana brand) after he finally recovered from a lost decade – thanks, ironically, to The Man who locked him away on a string of charges and forced him to clean up.  The exponent of Free Love who later confessed with regret that he’d treated many of the women in his life poorly.  A contradiction.

But also a Byrd, also one of the magic trio of Crosby Stills and Nash and the quarter of CSN&Y.  A solo artist with one of the greatest albums ever recorded in ‘If I Could Only Remember My Name‘, half of the duo David Crosby & Graham Nash and enjoyer of a latter-day renaissance with the Lighthouse and Skytrails bands of younger musicians.  And just so amazing on stage, last seen in the UK in 2018 his voice was incredible.

It’s pretty safe to say we’ll never see another Crosby.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?

A fitting eulogy to one of the greatest musicians ever. You said it all with these few sentences! Thank you so much.
