Dusty Wright “Quinn The Eskimo” – is he here yet?

There are those who disagree with the statement that Dylan is one of the most significant songwriters of the 20th Century.  You can see where they are coming from – his five studio albums of his own material recorded since 2001 make a strong claim for him being one of the most significant songwriters of the 21st Century as well.

The new single from Dusty Wright casts the net back to the first decade of Dylan’s music with a coupling of this song and ‘You Ain’t Going Nowhere.’  These were recorded as part of the sessions for Wright’s new album ‘Dusted Off’ whiuch is a choice collection of covers.  Dusty told us that “These two Dylan covers have always been personal favourites.  Both had been written during Dylan and The Band’s self-imposed Big Pink exile in West Saugerties, NY. For me, they created the whole genre we now call “Americana.”  So, it’s not surprising that I’d gravitated to ‘Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)’ and ‘You Ain’t Going Nowhere’.  I’d first heard Manfred Mann’s hit version of ‘Mighty Quinn’ in 1968 and The Byrds’ country rock reading of ‘You Ain’t Going Nowhere’ from their seminal album ‘Sweetheart of the Rodeo.’

This recording features Dusty Wright – vocals, harmonica, acoustic & electric guitars, Kevin Mackall – bass and Steve Candlen – drums & percussion.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
