Erika Lewis “Loser” – the…err…winner takes it all

Erika Lewis has a wonderful new album ‘A Walk Around the Sun’ out on April 29th, from which ‘Loser‘ is taken.   It’s a classic song of betrayed love: “You said I was your lover, you said that I would never be your friend, you said I’d never lose you, and that we’d be together in the end.”  Oh dear, we know how this story ends, don’t we dear reader?  So does Erika who says that the upbeat ‘Loser‘ is “loosely based on my own experience in romantic relationships and the push and pull that comes with it. The push of dedication and loyalty and the pull of betrayal and broken promises. Feeling like you would do anything in order to make it work yet not really knowing what to do.”

Erika Lewis is probably best known for New Orleans trad jazz band Tuba Skinny – but there’s not a trace of that on this song which is deeply pleasing folk-Americana with a country twist.  Give it a go, you’ll like it, really you can’t…err….lose…with this one.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
