Flora Hibberd “As Long As There is Night” – Listen

Flora Hibberd’s songs all happened – that is there is a kernel of truth within them – scenes are captured and played out – and given the gloss of insight and understanding.  ‘As Long as There is Night’ is one such story taken from Flora Hibberd’s new release ‘The Absentee EP‘.

It is music that sits within a tradition of bleakly honest singing, a laying bare of emotions.   Flora Hibberd says of the new collecition “The songs of this EP emerged over months and years, and were refined in bars, apartments and on the streets. ‘The Absentee’ was written fifty metres below the English Channel, three years ago. ‘In Violence’ was written in 2017 in the garden of the Musée Rodin. Their influences are too many to name; random encounters with poetry, art, music and language in all its forms have bled into my writing in ways of which I am often unaware. They are about real people and real events. But they are also about impossible people, and impossible events. My hope is that they find you here, on the blurred edge between reality and dreams, in the half-awake place where the familiar merges with the unknown.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
