Gerycz/Powers/Rolin “June” – Exquisite Improvised Sounds

Jayson Gerycz, Jen Powers and Matthew J. Rolin have come up with something that sounds just sensational on their new album ‘Lamplighter‘ which is due out on the 3rd of September.  And hey, we know it’s July, but ‘June’ is a track you just need to hear – jammed into under 3 minutes there are guitar chord progressions, cascading dulcimer, and a driving drum pattern.  What to know the best thing?  Well, guitarist Matthew Rolin avers that “It was almost entirely improvised.”  So, that’s fine musicianship, but there’s another thing we really like and that’s Jen Powers’ hammer dulcimer – we just don’t get to hear enough hammer dulcimer these days, it’s such a magical instrument that seems to pull sounds out of the air.  So, here’s ‘June‘ to enjoy.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
