Glasgow Americana returns with its best line up yet

Glasgow Americana has lined up ten gigs featuring overseas and home-based acts for this year’s five day long festival. The on-stage action for the 12th Glasgow Americana will take place at six city venues from Wednesday this week, October 3rd to 7th. Fans will be able to enjoy two gigs on Festival Friday, three on the Saturday and the Sunday, including a trio of matinee performances, plus two album launches.

The opening gig on October 3rd at Cottiers features Yola Carter, whose singer-songwriter talents were recognised when her track, Home, from her  Orphan Offering EP, won the AMA UK Song of the Year Award this year.

Emily Barker, the Australian singer-songwriter, musician and composer whose music has featured as the theme to BBC dramas Wallander and The Shadow Line, plays Oran Mor on October 4th. Her latest album, Sweet Kind Of Blue, with its mix of soul, blues, country and folk helped her pick up
the UK Artist of the Year 2018 at the UK Americana Awards.

On the Friday (October 5th) there is a choice of two gigs. American songwriter, Anthony D’Amato, who has opened for Ricky Ross, Gretchen Peters and Israel Nash opreviousus Glasgow visits, is on at The Glad Café while The Hellfire Club, with members from a number of Glasgow seminal indie groups from the 1990s, present their take on Americana at The Hug and Pint.

Three gigs are scheduled for Saturday, October 6th: Glasgow singer-songwriter, Martha L. Healy, launches her new, recorded-in-Nashville album, Keep The Flame Alight, with a full-band matinee show at The Glad Café. In the evening, Be Kind, the latest album by The Starry Skies, will be launched at The CCA, featuring the voice and songs of Glasgow-based singer/songwriter, Warren McIntyre. And at The Glad Café on the Saturday evening are Bennett Wilson Poole whose songwriting reflects The Byrds and the harmonies of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young with dashes of Petty and Springsteen.

There are also three Sunday shows, kicking off with the festival’s annual concert in association with The Hazy Recollections. This year’s line-up includes North Carolina troubadour, Woody Pines, plus some of the best Scottish acts on the scene, including Yvonne Lyon, Al Shields, Adriana Spina and Noah and The West River Band. Tennessee-based singer/songwriter, Nathan Bell, voted Male Performer of the Year in our very own readers’ poll, is in the Sunday matinee slot at The CCA to perform material from two new albums, including a live one, due for UK release. Bringing the curtain down on Glasgow Americana is Austin-based singer-songwriter, Kimmie Rhodes,
who has released 16 solo albums in a three-decade career, written and produced three musical plays, published a novella/cookbook – and written many well known songs, recorded by artists such as Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings, Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris.

“We set high standards for Glasgow Americana and the quality of acts in this year’s superb line-up reflects that,” said festival director, Kevin Morris. “We have a good balance to it all, including two album launches, ensuring great music throughout the five days. “Everyone who buys tickets creates a special buzz at our shows, and we appreciate their continuing
support and that of Creative Scotland as well. “I hope everyone has a great time.”
