Great Lake Swimmers have new album and tour dates

That’s right – it’s been a long time since ‘A Forest of Arms‘ , fully 3 years, but at last Tony Dekker’s band return with a new full-length release ‘The Waves, The Wake‘ which is out on the 17th of August.  This, the seventh full length release by Great Lake Swimmers, also comes in the fifteenth year of the band’s existence.  Over all these years and all those albums the heart of the band’s sound has remained a cool, almost existential, take on folk-rock, occasionally on more recent releases seeing the rock part of the equation weighted just slightly heavier.

So – new album is half the good news but the other half is that there will also be a proper UK tour later in the year.  A lot later – December to be exact.  The Canadians will play a total of six shows as listed below, book-ending them with jaunts to the continent taking in Belgium, France, Germany and Denmark.

Dec 04 – Brighton UK @ The Haunt
Dec 05 – Cardiff UK @ Globe
Dec 07 – Manchester UK @ YES
Dec 08 – Glasgow UK @ Broadcast
Dec 09 – Leeds UK @ The Brudenell Social Club
Dec 11 – London UK @ Lexington

Here’s the super cool video for new song ‘The Talking Wind‘ , taken from the new album.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
