iskwē & Tom Wilson “Blue Moon Drive” – Listen

This song represents the power of coincidence – the musical collaboration was born out of a gig for the 2020 Indspire Awards.  Tom Wilson shares how it came about:  “We happened to be asked to perform together at the Indspire Awards in Ottawa, Canada. We had never sung together so until we actually stepped up to the microphone and started to sing we didn’t know that we had a little bit of magic going on between us.”

iskwē is of Cree and Métis heritage and is a creator and communicator of music and of movement, of pictures, poetry and prose. And through it all, she’s a teller of stories. Tom Wilson is known for his music and also for his memoir ‘Beautiful Scars‘ which tells, amongst other things, how he discovered his Mohawk heritage.   The distinctive trumpet solos on ‘Blue Moon Drive’ are played by Chuck Copenace who is an Ojibway jazz musician based out of Winnipeg MB.  Together the sweet trumpet, the clear vocals of  iskwē  and Tom Wilson’s basement deep growl make for something quite distinctive and memorable.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
