Jackie K “Nurse Jane” – don’t fetch the nurse, thanks…

This could not really be more different from the last song we featured on Americana UK from Saskatchewan’s Jackie K – ‘Dandelions Everywhere‘ was a happy song looking forward to Spring.  And ‘Nurse Jane‘ – well this is a song which plays to a haunted vibe inspired by the Saskatchewan School of the Arts where Jackie K played band and jazz music at Summer schools.  Why so haunted?  Well, before it had become an arts centre it was, from 1917 until 1971, a TB Sanatorium.  Nurse Jane, so legend had it, was in the building in its early years and after some time had a breakdown, killing herself and thirty patients.

As Jackie K explains: “It was known as one of the most haunted places in Canada –  I read about Nurse Jane and her time in the building when it first opened. I can’t speak to the accuracy of the story, but it intrigued me nonetheless.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
