Jaspar Lepak “My Right To Choose” – obviously

Jaspar Lepack was so impressed by this song written by Cary Cooper and Tom Prasada-Rao that she had to record her own version.  The song was written in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the new Texas law that essentially bans abortions after 6 weeks, this straightforward and powerful response comes at a time when a woman’s constitutional right to a safe and legal abortion is being threatened and challenged across the USA.  Speaking of her decision to record the song, Jaspar Lepak has explained that “When I heard Tom perform this song, it blew me away.  The right to choose is not just about a woman’s body: it’s about her intrinsic value as a person and her equal standing in society. What is so often missing from this debate is a woman’s voice speaking plainly about her life. This song does that.”

Jaspar Lepak has also announced a series of themed live streams through January.  They can be found here, and will run at 11AM Central Standard Time (yup, that’s 5PM UK Time).  The Themes are:

Sun 9th – New Songs for the New Year
Sun 16th – Songs for Winter
Sun 23rd – Songs for the Feminist Movement
Sun 30th – Forgiving Wind Live – Playing her whole album Forgiving Wind, she recorded in South Africa 10 years ago.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
