John Paul White new album soon and UK tour sooner

John Paul White quite rapidly became someone who needs no introduction – Grammy awards with The Civil War and an impressive first release post that band in the shape of 2016’s quite stunning ‘Beulah‘. And he’s back again with a new album, ‘The Hurting Kind‘, due out in April, and a first single (which you can hear now)  ‘The Long Way Home‘ which couples his emotive vocal to a perfectly rockin’ accompaniment.

The Hurting Kind‘ was recorded at Sun Drop Sound, White’s new home studio that he converted from an old, turn-of-the-century home in the historic district of Florence, AL, and at legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. The record was co-produced with Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes) and features additional contributions from a core group of musicians including Jon Radford (Leigh Nash, Odessa) and Reed Watson on drums, Pat Bergeson (Chet Atkins, Emmylou Harris) on electric guitar, Jon Estes (Robyn Hitchcock, Kesha) and David Hood (Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section) on bass and Lillie Mae (Jack White) on fiddle, plus guest vocals from Lee Ann Womack and background vocals from Erin Rae and The Secret Sisters.

As well as the standard release on the 12th of April of ‘The Hurting Kind‘ – which is on  Single Lock Records – there will also be a special printing for Record Store Day which will be accompanied by a 7″ bonus disc.  Cool.  And if you like your music live – and we certainly do – then there’s a half-dozen opportunities to see John Paul White in the very near future.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
