Judy Collins and a Global Choir to fund the WHO

It’s one of her most iconic recordings – ‘Amazing Grace‘  – and Judy Collins has been inspired to put her voice – and the voices of thousands of others making up a “virtual choir” – to good purpose.  In the middle of a global pandemic Judy Collins is certain of one thing – supporting global health through the World Health Organisation is of vital importance. That’s both obvious and unarguable. From seeing video of the response to her original recording being played as a thank-you and support for workers in a London hospital, Judy Collins was inspired to bring together a multitude of voices for a new fundraising version.  The new single of ‘Amazing Grace’ by Judy Collins & The Global Virtual Choir is available to download and stream now.  An official video is now available.

This is an Elektra/Asylum release and all proceeds will go to the WHO Solidarity Response Fund.

Those adding their voices to a new rendition of ‘Amazing Grace‘ include amateur singers and professionals – and Americana artists are at the heart of it with Steve Earle, Tift Merritt, Mandolin Orange, Judith Owen and Madeleine Peyroux all taking part.

Tift Merritt had this special message about why she wanted to be involved in the project:

and Ringo gave his full support too:

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
