Julian Taylor up for two Juno Awards

It seems that Americana UK was not the only place to be bowled over by Julian Taylor’s 2020 release ‘The Ridge‘, as Julian Taylor, of combined Mohawk and Caribbean ancestry, has been nominated in the JUNO Awards categories of Contemporary Roots Album of the Year and Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year.

Julian Taylor is a major label veteran, Toronto music scene staple, and something of a musical chameleon. His versatility as a songwriter is signature; one minute he’s onstage playing with his band spilling out electrified rhythm and blues glory, and the next he’s featured at a folk festival delivering a captivating solo singer-songwriter set as epitomised on ‘The Ridge.’  After more than twenty years on the music scene it’s perhaps surprising that these are Taylor’s first-ever JUNO nominations, but what the heck – it gives us a chance to revisit ‘The Ridge‘ again.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
