Kristina Train “We The People” – Listen

Kristina Train’s new song ‘We the People‘ was inspired by a touristy turn around Philadelphia’s historical monuments a few years back. She, and her co-writer Paul Olsen, were struck by the beauty of the language and ideas behind the United States’ founding documents, and how distant they seemed from the country’s reality.

And here we are in 2020 and as Train sings “it’s not like when I was a kid, that’s what the old folks say / it’s a different generation with a different set of rules.”  Don’t be fooled by the laid back feel of the song, Train is in a chiding mood, and she’s having no truck with uninhibited gun ownership, or those who want to roll back to some mythical golden age – this is the 21st century, not sometime in the 1950s.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
