Linda Ronstadt: ‘I don’t like any of my albums’

Not quite as severe as it sounds – Linda Ronstadt, in a recent wide ranging interview in The Guardian, just joined the long list of artists who don’t get pleasure from listening to their old stuff “Well, I don’t ever listen to my stuff once I’ve finished it…when I listen to all my old stuff, I tend to be horrified.”  She talks about many of the people she’s worked with in the past;covering such diverse artists as Paul Simon and Frank Zappa, and also has a few words on someone from the contemporary American scene “he has an acute instinct for the lowest common denominator – he knows how to go really low. So if we don’t wake up, he could turn us into a dictatorship”  Who could she be thinking of?  Read the whole interview here to find out!

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
