Lisa Akuah “Bubbles” – Listen

Not, thankfully, a song about isolation and the community bubbles people are advised to restrict their meeting of others to.  We don’t think we could have taken that.  No, Lisa Akuah’s soft sounding but rather biting ‘Bubbles‘ is a reproach to people who can live their lives within a bubble from reality, a reality which she reminds them will eventually “catch up with you“. Berlin based Akuah grew up in a small town in Germany, where she learnt guitar from the age of six but it was at University in Dublin that she discovered her folk roots.

Ironically Lisa Akuah played her first post-lockdown gig  in late July and this led to her and her band mates having to go into quarantine.  So maybe ‘Bubbles‘ is a Covid song after all.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
