Matt Dorien “Teddy Wilson” – Listen

Matt Dorrien walks a while in Harry Nilsson’s shoes on his new song ‘Teddy Wilson‘, named for the jazz pianist who played with the likes of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.  It’s Matt Dorrien’s first single since the release of his debut album ‘In the Key of Grey‘ and its retro-sound and gentle calming balm of a tune is quite deliberate on Matt Dorrien’s part.

As he explained ” ‘Teddy Wilson’ is one of the first songs I wrote and recorded post ‘In the Key of Grey’. Lyrically, it’s about finding respite from a world in social and political upheaval, and especially about sharing that moment with someone important to you. Right after the 2016 presidential election, I became so consumed with trying to find ways to become politically and socially involved, and that meant staying current with the news. After awhile, I burnt myself out, and I think I wrote this song in response to that. There are other songs I wrote that deal directly with the current regime, one of which will be on the next record, but this song is just a plea for peace with someone you love, even if for just a brief moment.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
