Mercy Bell “Home” – Listen

We don’t underplay the importance that Mercy Bell places on her background, as her publicity proudly declares she is “Nashville queer Filipino-American musician Mercy Bell“.  Which is great, but what is really going to make an impact in a moment or two when you listen to her single ‘Home‘ is the power in her voice.

And the power in her lyrics – this is a song that dwells in heartbreak country, the country of hard knocks and hard times.  There’s no pleading here for special attention, just a polite request for a little help “Take me home, I’ll be better in the morning / Take me home, I’ll be better come the day“.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
