My Girl The River “Sad Dog” – Listen

Kris Wilkinson’s new song – out on the 26th of this month via Bandcamp – is a personally emotional tale.  The release date is the first anniversary of her mother’s passing and ‘Sad Dog‘ is about the navigating of the pain and grief that Kris has experienced over that year.  One way that she found to cope was to go for walks, and on these she would sometimes be accompanied by her grief personified as a sad dog.  As she explains “Some days the sad dog was along every step of the way and other days the sad dog did not appear. Over time visits from the sad dog became more infrequent, as if it had someone else who needed it more.”  So, this is a sad song – but it’s full of humanity and, yes, even a glimmer of hope.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
