Nicole Atkins records with “weirdest, craziest band ever”

Nicole Atkins returns with a new album ‘Italian Ice‘ to be released on the 17th of April via Single Lock Records.  The title references her Asbury Park days, where the titular treat was available on the boardwalks,  it’s also her alter-ego when shooting craps.  Nicole Atkins describes the new album as “an acid trip through my record collection“, and as such it encompasses a range of sounds.

Naturally such diversity required a band who could cut their chops in a range of styles and on ‘Italian Ice‘ Nicole Atkins is joined by Jim Sclavunos and David “Moose” Sherman of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Dap-Kings’ Binky Griptite and drummer McKenzie Smith (St. Vincent, Midlake) – along with the legendary Spooner Oldham and David Hood of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.  Even this was not diverse enough and there are guest appearances by Seth Avett, John Paul White and Erin Rae.

Nicole will tour ‘Italian Ice‘ throughout 2020 and has confirmed a string of UK shows in May:
TUE 26TH MAY – The Moth Club, London
WED 27TH MAY – Brudenell Social Clube, Leeds
THU 28TH MAY – The Cluny, Nerwcastle
FRI 29TH MAY – Red Rooster Festival, Euston Hall

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
