Pinewood “Riverbank” – Listen

The self-release of ‘All Things With Symmetry‘ on May 1st will see Sam Kempe (Pinewood) move from bass duties in various Athens, Georgia, indie-rock bands coupled with audio production for the same to sending his own music out into the world.

Riverbank‘ is a first taste of this more acoustic direction – having been raised on folk-rock songwriters and bluegrass music it’s hardy surprising  that he has meditative lyrics and an expansive drum sound in him – augmented by plucked banjo and mandolin creating a rhythmic “string” section.  It’s a dreamily spacious sound.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
