Raelyn Nelson Band “Hating You” – Listen

There really should be a prohibition on nods to The Clash’s ‘London Calling‘ album cover (although, yes, we know that was a “nod” itself).  Raelyn Nelson has a grandfather you may have heard of, but although she brings some country to her band the keynote sound is rough and ready rock – Country Garage Rock if you like.

It’s fair to say that Raelyn Nelson plays up the tongue-in-cheek in her music – the key takeaway from ‘Hating You‘ is the observation that she is “falling back in love with hating you“.  It’s a punk  – with a small p – attitude that runs through her album ‘Don’t‘.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
