Shirley Collins has announced her third album on Domino Records’ , Archangel Hill‘ will be released on May 26th. The MBE-decorated folk legend is known for her work with her sister Dolly during the second folk revival and, having retired from recording in 1978, returned in 2016 with the album ‘Lodestar‘. ‘Archangel Hill‘ included singles’ High and Away‘, which came out earlier this month and ‘Hares on the Mountain‘. Named for her late father’s pet name for the local Lewes landmark Mount Caburn, it is a collection of future-traditional folk songs and was produced by Ian Kearey.

This is the third time Collins has recorded the folk song ‘Hares on the Mountain‘. She says: “I’ve recorded this twice before: once a rather trivial version collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams; the second time I rewrote the melody and recorded it with Davy Graham in 1965. This time I was looking to bring out the mysterious and wry quality that lies underneath.“.

The album will be available on t grass green-coloured vinyl with a signed postcard, standard vinyl, CD and digitally. You can pre-order the album from Domino Record’s website. Collins will perform with The Lodestar Band at the Brighton Festival on May 29th. You can purchase tickets on the festival’s website.
