Something for the long weekend: Aoife O’Donovan “Phoenix”

Credit: Omar Cruz

Well, that’s it for another week of great music and vibes.  Yes indeed, Thursday is the new Friday as we head into the long weekend – thank the multi-faceted deities for the four day Easter Weekend.  You may be considering gorging on chocolate ovoids  – that’s an option – or maybe a bracing randonnée a la campagne.  That’s cool – have fun with the ferry crossing if that should be your choice. Us?  Well let’s just say that there’s new music from Aoife O’Donovan to be listened to, and that’s as good a way to spend your time as any other.

Phoenix‘ is taken from the album ‘ The Age Of Apathy Solo Sessions‘ which features eight songs from the ‘Age of Apathy‘ album with a special twist – can you guess it?  Yes, spot on – same songs but reimagined as intimate solo performances.  They are beautiful.  But then, everything Aoife O’Donovan records seems to deserve that label – it doesn’t diminish the value of the word but it does enhance the value of the artist.

Have a good one – and if you’re burnt out by Monday night, may you rise from the ashes with the dawning of Tuesday’s morn.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
