Well that’s it for another week dear reader. As we head towards the holiday season, The Guardian published a good piece earlier this week about how the best Christmas songs are the depressing ones, and provided a multitude of evidence exhibits including Sufjan Stevens and Low among others, but one song they mentioned has aways had an eerie fascination for me – Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘7 O’clock News / Silent Night’ taken from their 1966 album ‘Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme’ – the dark and the light somehow being more than the sum of its parts, with references to Lenny Bruce, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nixon among others. It’s still an exhilarating listen, all two minutes of it. And there are so many more festive highlights to dig into. Have a good one.
