Steve Forbert is standing in the Early Morning Rain

Forty Two years on from his debut ‘Alive on Arrival‘, Steve Forbert is returning with his 21st Studio album.  And for only the second time in his career the new release is a collection of covers – back in 2002 there was ‘Any Old Time‘ the Grammy-nominated tribute to Mississippi legend Jimmie Rodgers.  For ‘Early Morning Rain‘ it is not a single artist being celebrated, as Steve Forbert explained: “I recorded this album in an attempt to renew people’s appreciation for the fine craftsmanship these songs represent and as an acknowledgement of how much good ‘ol songs like these have meant to me.”

The album will be released on May 1st on Blue Rose Music, and features Steve’s take on an eclectic mix of these eleven songs:

    1. Early Morning Rain
    2. Box of Rain
    3. Your Song
    4. Supersonic Rocket Ship
    5. Withered and Died
    6. Someday Soon
    7. Pick Me Up On Your Way Down
    8. Suzanne
    9. Frankie and Johnny
    10. Good Time Charlie’s Got The Blues
    11. Dignity

Steve’s take on Danny O’Keefe’s ‘Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues‘ has been released as a taster of what’s to come, and it’s sounding good.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
