Sturgill and Isbell to play Tibet House benefit

News from Pitchfork this afternoon that Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell have announced that they’ll be performing at the 32nd annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert which takes place at Carnegie Hall on February 7th. They report: “They will perform alongside previously announced guests New Order’s Bernard Sumner, Margo Price, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Jon Batiste, Stephen Colbert, and more. Philip Glass will be the evening’s artistic director. Tickets can be purchased on the Carnegie Hall website.

In February, Blood Orange, Angel Olsen, the Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt, and others performed at the 31st annual Tibet House Benefit Concert alongside special guests Phil Glass, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, the Resistance Revival Chorus, Rhiannon Giddens, and Tibetan folk singer Techung.”

Tibet House US was founded at the request of the Dalai Lama, who at the inauguration in 1987 stated his wish for a long-term cultural institution to ensure the survival of Tibetan civilization and culture, whatever the political destiny of the six million people of Tibet itself.
