Suzie Ungerleider has a new album coming

Now, don’t say “Suzie who?”  Suzie Ungerleider has decided that, from now on, she’ll be dropping the stage name she has performed under for some twenty five years and instead of being Oh Susanna she’ll be herself.  There are several reasons for this as she explains in a Blog Post, but the most pressing one is a realisation that the lovely little ditty we all learnt in primary school actually has a pretty toxic backstory of racism and white minstrelsy.  So it’s Oh Susanna no more from now on.

The two time Juno Award nominee will be releasing her new album ‘My Name is Suzie Ungerleider‘ on August 13th, via MVKA.  The first track to be previewed from it is ‘Baby Blues,’ a song about how the traumatic events we witness when we’re young can haunt and indeed shape our older selves.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
