The Ghibertins “Ropes & Kites” – powerful indy-folk-rock

On the latest single from their album ‘The Life & Death of John Doe‘, Milan’s The Ghibertins channel all the positive energy they can on the album’s most upbeat number.  Like Ben Franklin’s kite, The Ghibertins have chosen to fly with a conducting cable – and the song bears witness to multiple lightning strikes as it rises to crescendo after crescendo – peaking with a backing choir taking the song to a dramatic conclusion.

Frontman of The Ghibertins, Alessio Hofmann has said of the song “’Ropes & Kites’ is by far the most positive track on the whole concept album. It represents the joy felt through the decades of the protagonist’s life from his sixties to seventies. We wanted the listener to literally float in the air while listening to this song. I’ve imagined all the emotion you could feel whilst watching your nephews playing on your house’s front porch. I’ve imagined how it would feel, despite all the mistakes, to finally understand what happiness is. That overwhelming sense of awareness, it’s all in ‘Ropes & Kites’.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
