The Jaws Of Brooklyn “Forever And A Day” – romance is not dead, really

The Jaws of Brooklyn formed when Radio Raheem’s three members (Zia Uddin-Drums, Paul Christofferson-Bass, Bryan Cohen-Guitar) met singer Lindsay Love in Seattle during the height of the COVID pandemic in August 2020. They recorded a series of demos in Cohen’s basement, which included background vocal contributions from Black Pumas’ Lauren Cervantes and keyboards from Funky 2 Death’s Melissa Montalto. The demos caught the ear of Alabama Shakes keyboardist Ben Tanner and Fitz and the Tantrums and Lady Blackbird writer/producer Chris Seefried.

The high energy garage rocking ‘Forever and a Day‘ song draws on the practice of “cuffing” – that is the practice of singles searching out short-term partners to pass the colder months of the year.  Yeah, us neither – and also surely romantic as heck.  However that may be, the song portrays a hold-out for something better (did someone say “low bar“), for – in fact – something of a more long lasting persuasion: “I stand and I wait forever and a day” sings Lindsay Love as a declaration that there is time to make a more carefully considered decision.  Wise words indeed.  Also, the song bashed the listener around the head in a glorious way.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
