The Rosellys “On The Porch”

Clubhouse Records 2022

Fifth release for true family outfit The Rosellys is a 14 track collection of stirring, moving and classy fiddle and banjo-centric songs.

Keeping it well and truly in the family, Herefordshire based The Rosellys have released their latest album and what a polished and class album it is. Fronted by husband and wife Dr Rebecca Rosellys (guitar, vocals, banjo) and partner Simon Rosellys (guitar, fiddle, vocals) and backed by George Kirby (drums), George’s dad Matt (double and electric bass) and Simon’s dad Allen Kelly (pedal steel guitar, mandolin), they all mesh into a fine and accomplished outfit.

This album has more fiddle and pop polish according to the band and the song writing is truly top notch here. Wonderful opener ‘If You Ain’t Gotta Go Home’ is a rousing and foot stomping cracker with a lovely singalong chorus. Second track ‘Don’t Pull Away’ is another fiddle focused track and definitely has a splendid pop sheen to it.

Track 4 is another standout – ‘Lafyette Louisiana’ – and yet another family member makes her debut on this one with baby Rosellyn Rosellys bookending it with her atmospheric giggling, as it goes on to another catchy tune with a singalong chorus – gorgeous. ‘Dark Clouds and Blue Skies’ is a banjo focused lovely tune fully demonstrating the strength of Rebecca’s vocals.

Penultimate track ‘Night and Day’ is a silky smooth acoustic number made for radio-play and closer ‘Camden Town’ is a tribute to the multi-cultural London home they once lived in and a celebration of the area the couple met in all those years ago.

Expertly produced by Ron Rogers (T’Pau) this is a 14 track collection of stirring, moving and classy fiddle and banjo-centric songs from a couple who, 17 years into their relationship, obviously really understand each other personally and musically – a highly impressive collection it is too.
