‘The Twang Factor’ presents: Eli Gardiner

Welcome to this week’s ‘The Twang Factor’. We’ve enjoyed some fabulous unsung artists over the last few weeks and once again we’ve sifted through the entries to pick out another real gem. Eli Gardiner is a songwriter originally from Michigan but now residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He describes himself as “a  solo artist out of necessity” but recently recruited other musicians to “better serve the songs” on his most recent album ‘The Fire and the Medicine’.

For AUK Eli has chosen a song called ‘Make Me Cry Again’. Eli explains: “I wrote this song one night after attending a songwriter showcase here in Minnesota. A friend of mine and fellow songwriter Laura Hugo, who writes the most devastatingly beautiful and sad songs had just played a short set that night and made everyone in the bar cry. The scene kept revolving in my head as I drove home. I could picture the generations of poets and writers looking down on this little room full of guitars, stories and dreams.  As soon as I got home I sat down and wrote this song, I hope you enjoy it”.

From buying my first record aged 10 and attending my first gig at 14, music has been a lifelong obsession. My idea of a perfect day would be a new record arriving in the post in the morning, watching Ipswich Town win in the afternoon followed by a gig and a pint with my mates at night,
