The Twelve Days of the SXSW Lineup: Five rhinestone suits

Gay for Christmas by Paisley Fields

The first and second waves of the 37th annual Texan showcase of new music SXSW lineup have been released, and once again, it looks to be the sound of tomorrow. The festival runs a full six days from March 10-19th, 2023 and registration for tickets is open now. You can see the ticket and lineup information in full at https://www.sxsw.com/.

Texas and March may be far away, but the music is always close. Americana UK journos trawled through the 400+ artists to bring you a list of what hot new Americana artists you could be playing next year. You heard them here first. This is day five of a Twelve-part series that explores this showcase; enjoy all of these artists “five rhinestone suits, four open roads, three fresh hats, two bald eagles, and a pardner in a pantry”.

Paisley Fields:

Active since 2013, Paisley Fields is a singer-songwriter who splits his time between Brooklyn, New York and Nashville, Tennessee. Putting in time of hours behind the piano in Manhattan bars, this queer country artist draws inspiration from Andy Warhol and drag artists on his latest album ‘Limp Wrist‘. His new single was featured earlier this year on Americana UK.

Germein:

Australian sister band Germein – Georgia, Ella, and Clara Germein – grew up jamming together on their family farm in Adelaide. They were raised on the records of B.B. King, Van Morrison, and Cat Stevens, and their father played trumpet in a New Orleans rhythm and blues band. They have toured the UK with Jesse Glynn, played on BBC 6 Music, and have released a steady stream of singles for the last four years.

San Saba County:

San Saba (they dropped the “county” in 2019 according to their bio) had a string of album between 2004-2016, and after a eight-year pause have released their sixth album ‘Hurry up and Wait‘. The Texan group’s sound ranges from “International Submarine Band (Gram Parsons)” to “future inspiration for Jimmie Dale Gilmore”.

The Courettes:

The Courettes is a duo from Denmark and Brazil who blend garage rock, 60s Girl Group, surf music and doo wop. They signed with legendary British label Damaged Goods in 2020, putting them on the same roster as Holly Golightly and The William Loveday Intention. Their last and third album, ‘Back in Mono‘ was released late last year and has shared stages with the likes of Kitty Daisy and Lewis.

GracieHorse:

Grace Jackson has been putting out music as GracieHorse since 2015. Her debut EP and successive singles speak for themselves. This is a good thing because as an artist she has been shrouded in mystery. She writes out of LA and as far as we can tell is somehow still unsigned! You very much heard her slow burning indie country rock here first!
