The first and second waves of the 37th annual Texan showcase of new music SXSW lineup have been released, and once again, it looks to be the sound of tomorrow. The festival runs a full six days from March 10-19th, 2023 and registration for tickets is open now. You can see the ticket and lineup information in full at https://www.sxsw.com/.

Texas and March may be far away, but the music is always close. Americana UK journos trawled through the 400+ artists to bring you a list of what hot new Americana artists you could be playing next year. You heard them here first. This is Day Three of a Twelve-part series that explores this showcase; enjoy all of these artists, “three fresh hats, two bald eagles, and a pardner in a pantry”.

Blondshell:

Blondshell is the project of New York-born artist Sabrina Teitelbaum. Now living in LA, Blondshell has released a steady stream of singles this year and will be touring next year. She will appear at The Great Escape and Wide Awake and perform at least three UK headline dates in May 2023.

Julie Odell:

New Orleans-based singer Julie Odell has just released her first album and finished a European tour, which flew under our radar. Americana UK is pleased to discover her Cajun-tinged, rootsy, beautiful work.

The Trials of Cato:

Not many artists can win Best Album at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards with their first album, but Trials of Cato did in 2019. The so-called “Sex Pistols of folk” have released their second album ‘Gog Magog‘ this year and seem to be going from strength to strength. Formed in Beirut in 2016, Americana UK is looking forward to hearing where they go next.

Ailbhe Reddy:

Irish artist Ailbhe Reddy launched her debut album, ‘Personal History‘, in 2020 to positive reviews. Americana UK was impressed with her singles and has been diligently keeping an ear to the ground with regard to her career. Her sophomore album ‘Endless Affair‘ is set for release on March 17th 2023.

poolblood:

poolblood is the project of 20-something Toronto artist Maryam Said. They have had a steady stream of singles and EPs since 2019, drawing on a love of Cat Stevens and Nick Drake. poolblood is evidence that Americana is timeless and appealing to all ages.
