The Wood Brothers “Pilgrim” – a long way from my home

Pilgrim‘ is the first single and opening track from The Wood Brothers’ latest album ‘Heart is the Hero‘, which is released on April 14th on Honey Jar/Thirty Tigers.  The Wood Brothers – Oliver and Chris Wood, along with Jano Rix – will then be heading out on an extensive tour alongside Shovels & Rope, having already toured on their own in March.  In the States though, you can find the dates here if that’s something you can potentially take advantage of.

Pilgrim‘ is a song that soulfully communicates a philosophy of travel and experiencing the world as Oliver Wood explains: “A song like ‘Pilgrim’ is all about slowing down and paying attention.  I’d heard somebody compare being a pilgrim to being a tourist. If you’re a tourist, you’re just distracted and partying. It’s a different intention than a pilgrim. A pilgrim, the way I think about it, is somebody on a spiritual mission, smelling every flower on the path and really letting your soul catch up with you. It’s that ‘being still’ thing and trying to be present. It’ll get you further in terms of being happy then hauling ass, swiping, scrolling and consuming all of the time.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
